The historic centre of the old town, with its elegant colonial architecture, and the picturesque former fishing village of Catalan Bay on the eastern side of the Rock have been enhanced by comfortable modern dwellings for the local population, along with luxury homes that cater for the many wealthy residents of the Rock. Gibraltar provides a wealth of shopping facilities that would not seem out of place in the UK.
